Celebrating National Women in AI Month: Empowering Innovation at DOMA Technologies
Virginia Beach, VA, October 28th, 2024
This National Women in Artificial Intelligence Month, we want to highlight the impressive contributions of women in one of the fastest growing industries in the world: artificial intelligence and tech while raising awareness of the significant underrepresentation of women in this field. At DOMA we’re proud to be part of the movement toward innovation, diversity, and growth—driven by the belief that progress is best achieved when everyone has a seat at the table.
Women have always been at the forefront of technological advancements, from Ada Lovelace, who created the first computer algorithm, to modern AI trailblazers like Fei-Fei Li, whose work in visual intelligence has transformed how machines understand the world. These pioneers remind us that diversity in thought, background, and experience fuels the most quality innovations.
However, according to the World Economic Forum, “Women make up only 22% of AI professionals globally. Only 13.83% of AI paper authors are women, only 18% of authors at the leading AI conferences are women and just 2% of venture capital was directed towards start-ups founded by women in 2019.”
We are focused on bridging gender equality in technology because we believe that diverse perspectives lead to better problem-solving and more innovative solutions. This belief is reflected in our core values and our growing number of women in leadership and technical roles, with 51% of our leadership staff being women.
While women remain underrepresented in the AI field, their influence continues to grow. This month is a chance to amplify their voices, empower women in tech, and celebrate the strides being made in building a more inclusive tech landscape.
The women at DOMA aren’t just contributors—they’re leaders, boldly advancing what’s possible with AI and technology. Product Manager Megan Keehan shares, “Being a woman in tech often means navigating spaces where you may be the only one in the room who looks like you. However, the field is evolving with more initiatives to foster diversity and inclusion. My advice to women entering the industry: build your network, advocate for yourself, and don’t hesitate to take up space. You belong here just as much as anyone else.” With this mindset, women like Megan are shaping the future of AI and inspiring the next generation of tech talent.
As we celebrate the women in AI today, we must also look forward to the future. Propelling women to enter and thrive in the AI field isn’t just a responsibility—it’s a necessity. We’re committed to fostering an environment where innovation, mentorship, and opportunity go together, paving the way for more women to lead in the tech sector.
There are many ways to celebrate National Women in AI Month and support women in tech:
- Attend events or webinars focused on AI careers and diversity
- Share the stories of female leaders and pioneers in AI
- Encourage young women and girls to explore opportunities in STEM through mentorship or educational outreach.
At DOMA, we believe that by championing diversity and supporting women in tech, we can continue to innovate fearlessly and create a future where technology is accessible to everyone.
